Understand the tests

Routine egg count is available now. Liver fluke and lungworm (Baermann) testing are coming soon.

Available now

Routine egg countModified McMaster

Available for: Sheep, Cattle, Goats, Alpacas, Horses.

What it is

Examines a faecal sample for parasite eggs and counts them.

What the result tells you

A quantitative result in eggs per gram (EPG). Oocysts that are counted quantitatively are reported in oocysts per gram (OPG) where applicable. Use it to monitor parasite findings and compare results over time.

Good to know

If no eggs are observed in the examined portion, the result is reported as <25 EPG. That does not mean an animal is parasite-free, and it does not rule out infection. Strongyle-type eggs are not automatically identified to species, and results are not treatment recommendations.

Collecting your sample

How test credits work

Routine FEC is available at launch. Liver fluke and Baermann testing are coming soon, so the combinations below apply once those tests open for ordering.

Any single test uses 1 test credit. Routine + liver fluke together also use 1 test credit. If lungworm (Baermann) is combined with either routine or liver fluke, the sample uses 2 test credits. The portal shows the test credit total for each sample before you submit.
